Hidaka Saori (日高さおり?) is a character in the D4DJ franchise who is the DJ of Merm4id.
Profile[]
Saori started her DJ career in high school, and due to her hardworking nature, she's built up a certain level of technique. She decided to become a DJ after listening to a remix made by a person who worked at the club FROLIC. Her pessimistic thinking held her back from DJing actively, even as a university student. Rika forced her to join the unit, but has made up her mind to change her mentality and achieve her goals.[2]
Appearance[]
Saori has wavy and short purple hair, with her bangs almost reaching her shoulders, and turquoise eyes.
Her unit costume is a yellow top with a floral print tied in the middle and short, ruffled sleeves. She also wears ripped denim breeches with a brown belt and flower decorations on the right side of her waist. She wears two bracelets on her right hand and a necklace on her neck. She also have a hairckip with flowers and dark blue pearl.
Background[]
Prior to meeting Rika and the others, Saori says that she was a really pessimistic person and a loner who had a hard time making friends, often doing things alone. She even struggled getting along well with her coworkers at her part-time jobs, which led to her quitting them.
She later found employment with the Sakurada household, becoming Miyu's tutor during the spring of her sophomore year of college after coming across a job posting in her school cafeteria. She quickly bonded with Miyu, to the point of also taking on her maid duties outside of tutoring, and is even well-liked by Miyu's father.[3]
Personality[]
Saori is reserved, but a polite and kind girl. She often acts the straight man of her unit and is the one who always stops Rika and Marika's antics from getting out of hand. As a grounded person who came from a humble background, Saori is quite attentive and cautious, picking up the slack of those around her.
All Mix's fifth episode delves a bit into this relationship dynamic, showing how Saori almost single-handedly has to arrange a collaboration with an American DJ and producer, even going through a severe depressive moment during it due to the need to learn English and a strong sense of insecurity in her music abilities in front of a foreign celebrity. Although Rika and the girls eventually manage to help her deal with it, Saori still has to mobilize her forces to resolve the situation.
Initially, Saori tended to be overly cautious and negative, often retreating into her shell and keeping herself from opening up to new experiences. Over time, however, her encounters with Merm4id encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone and become more open to trying new things, all the while staying true to herself and not pushing beyond her limits.
She has also shown herself to be a diligent and altruistic entrepreneur while running Club LAGOON's café counterpart for the senior citizens in the neighborhood. Her unit members often joked that her reserved and mellow personality made her especially approachable to the elderly. However, her focus on the venture eventually made her somewhat distant and cold toher unit members, and her overambition led her to overlook the practical priorities of running a café. Learning from this, she chose to manage the café on a smaller scale, placing greater emphasis on the happiness of her senior customers.[4]
Overall, Saori's experiences with Merm4id helped her loosen up, approach challenges with confidence, and take things in stride.
Etymology[]
Hidaka (日高) can be split into two parts. Hi (日), meaning sun or day, and Daka (高) meaning tall or expensive.
Saori (さおり) is a festival to welcome the gods when the rice planting season begins.

- Aside from reading manga, Saori also enjoys reading both regular and light novels.
- Saori claims she dislikes cilantro because she is "jealous of how it stands out", revealing the extent of her own inferiority complex.[5]
- Saori loves pandas.[6]
- Saori hates insects because she finds them very scary.
- Saori's favorite foods include cheese, squid, scallops, nuts, cucumbers, octopus, and shark cartilage.
- Saori is ticklish, which is how Rika and Marika make her smile and feel less anxious before performances, much to Saori's dismay.
- Saori used to take calligraphy lessons, hence where she developed her skill for it. One of her works is still hung at the school's entrance.[7]
- Though she composes the upbeat EDM tracks for Merm4id, Saori tends to listen to more somber, depressing songs on her own time[8]
- In All Mix, it is shown that Saori cannot speak English.[9]
