Niijima Ibuki (新島衣舞紀?) is a character in the D4DJ franchise and the leader of the group Photon Maiden. She is also the current producer of the group[1] as well as the current student council president of Yoba Academy.[2]
Profile[]
Ibuki loves to move her body and has participated in many sports since childhood. In junior high, she became hooked on the joy of dancing and singing and started attending a show production school. Never forgetting to care for others, she is leader in both title and the fact that she always supports her unit.[3]
Appearance[]
Ibuki is a tall girl with a well-maintained figure. She has grey hair tightly pulled into a ponytail. Her front bangs are parted, and she has blue-grey eyes with light skin.
Background[]
Ibuki was part of a track club in middle school, and her hard-working talent in running made her a role model for most of her underclassmen.[4] She in turn, would give helpful advice to her peers in hopes of helping them improve their running. But because Ibuki outperformed most of her club members and they felt that they couldn't be at her level, she came off as bossy, so they would talk poorly about Ibuki behind her back.[5]
Not wanting to hurt the morale of the club, Ibuki ended up quitting her track club afterwards. Though she made running a casual hobby, she would end up finding a new passion in performance arts and dancing, which eventually drew her to audition for Photon Maiden.
Personality[]
An easygoing, friendly and a proactive girl, Ibuki fills both roles of a gentle, caring older sister and a confident leader, qualities that have guided and supported her friends and groupmates. She has a strong sense of responsibility and accountability and extends this to her peers as well.
As an athletic dancer with a passion for rigorous physical activity, she contributes to developing Photon Maiden's physical fitness and dance skills, while also helping them discover and cultivate their identities as independent musicians. This is especially evident with Saki, whom Ibuki aided in helping her find new colors that she would eventually contribute to the unit's musical growth. Outside of professional settings though, she's usually responsible for setting them straight whenever they goof off.
She has a modest and humble side to her and gets flustered when receiving compliments and praise. In Doki Dokiss -Fall into Love's Dream, Tonight-, she denies that she could possibly attract customers, even when Hiiro states that Ibuki is the type that's definitely popular with younger students and Kyoko adds that she has a dedicated fan club in Yoba Academy.
Despite her cool and elegant front, Ibuki is quite emotional and prone to waterworks even in the simplest moments, showing how she appreciates the little things in life. Since she expects to take the reins in most situations, she sometimes gets flustered when other people offer her to rely on them as well, or prioritize herself.
Etymology[]
Niijima (新島) can be split into two parts. Ni (新), meaning new, and Jima (島) meaning island.
Ibuki (衣舞紀) can be split into three parts. I (衣) meaning clothes, Bu (舞) meaning dance, and Ki (紀) meaning record. The alternate reading of her name, (息吹)means "breath" or "vigor", which is related to her athletic nature.
