Ohnaruto Muni (大鳴門むに?) is a character in the D4DJ franchise, and is a member of the group Happy Around!.
Profile[]
Rinku praised Muni's drawing when they were young, and as a result she began to take drawing seriously. Now she has attracted attention on the internet as a renowned illustrator. She acts very affectionate to people who acknowledge her, but does not let her guard down with others.[1]
Appearance[]
Muni has brown hair with a pink gradient at the ends and round golden eyes. Her hair is tied into twintails with red bows, but it normally reaches down to her shoulders. She wears bunny ear headphones and has a piece of hair sticking up. Due to her wanting to stand out outside of Happy Around's live shows, she also wears a regular sized bunny ear hairband that she accidentally bought online using Rei's account.
Personality[]
Muni is the most technically proficient member of Happy Around!, often portrayed as an advanced PC user, a skilled gamer, very trendy on social media, and regularly carries a tablet or laptop with her, which she uses when needed. So, in one episode of the anime, she even connects to Michiru's stream to ask her about ways to promote events on the internet.
Although she can be quite snobbish due to her love of receiving praise, once saying "Muni-chan is a growing girl who needs praises!", she means well. Muni refers to everyone, including those who are older than her, with their first names and without honorifics, derived from her casual nature. She is usually the one who keeps Happy Around! from going too crazy along with Maho, but cherishes her friends regardless. At the same time, as a shy person, she still has her limits, such as getting very embarrassed when Rinku praises her talents too much or when Noa is showering Muni withs compliments over her cuteness. In the anime, she gets extremely embarrassed when Rinku invites her to try her croquette, as she clearly feels the implication of an indirect kiss in it. She also dislikes talking on the phone, finding texting and messaging people way easier.
Although she is used to being alone (because her mother is often busy with work and raising Muni all by herself), it doesn't stop her from feeling lonely at times. She hates being pitied, a feeling stemming from her childhood as people would feel sorry or pity her over certain things (such as her mother not having the time to make her a bento).[2]
Muni initally wanted to improve as an artist in order to gain more Likes and attention on social media. However, thanks to Shinobu's advice (although Muni had no idea it was her) and the art teacher at the intensive art class Muni decided to attend, she realized that in reality she wants to make people all around the world to smile with her artworks.[3]
Etymology[]
Ohnaruto (大鳴門) can be split up into three parts. Oo (大) means large, Naru (鳴) can mean "sound", "ring", "echo", and certain other words all relating to sounds. To (門) means gate.
Muni (むに) has no known meaning, but it is a reference to the phrase yuītsu muni (唯一無二, meaning one and only), which is also part of Muni's catchphrase.
Trivia[]
- Muni occasionally refers to herself as "The one and only Muni-chan" (唯一無二のむにちゃん, "Yuītsu Muni no Muni-chan"). In addition, she uses the pseudonym "VJ Only" in the Japanese, English and Spanish versions.
- This is localized in English as "Mu-nique" (a combination of her name and the word unique) and in Spanish as "Munica" (a combination of her name and the Spanish word "única").[4]
- Muni claims she is made of "100% sugar", meaning she prefers to eat junk food rather than meat and healthy vegetables. She only eats them after getting scolded by Rei and Hiiro.
- Muni's favorite junk foods are cotton candy, pizza, potato chips, ice cream, lollipops, hamburgers, french fries and cookies.
- She has a cat-shaped MP3 player named "Nyochio" that she always carries around with her and acts as the "mascot" of Happy Around.[5] In Nyochio's April Fools song, Muni is even described as "Nyochio's mama".
- Muni's weakest subject at school is Language Arts. This comes as a surprise to Rinku, who then tells the two used to be pen pals in grade school.[6]
- Muni is quite proficient in rapping, as shown in the anime.[7]
- In Groovy Mix, it's shown that Muni wears different animal ears with her casual outfit depending on the season. She wears bear ears in fall and winter and cat ears in spring and summer. She only wears her rabbit ears at school.
- She is an avid gamer who owns multiple game consoles and is skilled at multiple genres.[8]
- Muni dislikes snakes.[9]
- Just like Muni, her English dub voice actress, Lily Ki, is also an Internet artist and gamer.
