Shiratori Kurumi (白鳥胡桃?) is a character in the D4DJ franchise and the VJ for the group Lyrical Lily.

Profile[]

Bored of being in a strict school for children from rich and prestigious families, she is always looking for ways to work some kind of mischief. She feels like she owes a lot to Miyu for always finding the perfect way to save her, but Kurumi still can't help playing pranks.[1][2]

Appearance[]

Kurumi's eyes are a pale-yellow color with a mix of violet and orange hues. She has long, platinum blonde hair that reaches just above her waist.

Though she normally keeps her hair down, in some of her stage costumes, Kurumi has part of her hair tied into twin-tails, which have several small bows attached to them. She also wears a pair of pink headphones that appear to have a large white bow on the top.

Background[]

When Kurumi was younger, her aunt once played a small prank on her. The surprise and thrill she felt left such a deep impression that Kurumi decided she wanted to pull pranks herself, giving others the same experience.[3] At times she ends up causing people more shock than thrill, however.

Personality[]

Kurumi is a cheerful girl who loves fun things. Even though she seems to be quite light-hearted and carefree, both her and Miiko's pranks and teasing often show quite a good mind and understanding of the situation. For example, they almost always understand Haruna's intentions or thoughts quite quickly due to her emotional reactions, and are also able to display more well-meaning personalities if needed.

The anime continues to expand on this part of her personality, depicting Kurumi putting a lot of effort into helping Saki find a "new" color during Photon Maiden's joint performance with Lyrical Lily, or seriously worrying about the family shops closing in the shopping district when she misunderstands the lack of owners.

Kurumi can sometimes be a bit immature, disliking when others tell her to behave more like an adult or change for the sake of maturing. She was especially distraught when Miiko altered her speaking style to sound more formal outside of their part-time job. This stems from Kurumi's fear of change, as she simply wants her friends to stay true to themselves and remain together.[4] Despite her reservations about acting all prim and proper, Kurumi shows glimpses of maturity when it counts, and can often take on the role of being a reliable and level-headed friend.

Etymology[]

Shiratori (白鳥) can be split into two parts. Shira (白), meaning white, and Tori (鳥), meaning bird.

Kurumi (胡桃) means walnut.
